You’ve hit on the exact reason why Townhall Kustoms has
become a favorite in the Early Bronco community. While many generic kits are
essentially "off-the-shelf" shocks with some universal brackets, the
Townhall Kustoms kit is engineered specifically to address the structural
weaknesses of the classic Bronco body.
Here is the breakdown of why that tub-mount design
is a game changer compared to fender-mount alternatives:
1.
Tub-Mount vs. Fender-Mount
Most kits on the market mount to the inner fender. On an
Early Bronco, the fenders are relatively thin and prone to "walking"
or flexing.
· The Problem: Fender-mount
struts put constant outward pressure on the fenders. Over time, this push can shove
your fenders out of alignment, leading to uneven door gaps and
panels that no longer line up.
· The Townhall Solution: By mounting to
the body tub/firewall area, the pressure is transferred to the most
rigid part of the vehicle's skeleton. This keeps your fender alignment
perfectly intact and eliminates the "gapping" issues that haunt other
kits.
2.
Eliminating Hood Flex and Cracking
The 66–77 Bronco steel hood is notoriously heavy and prone
to cracking at the stress points near the hinges.
Plasma Cut and Stainless
Hardware:
Townhall utilizes 12- and 16-gauge steel for the fabrication of these brackets.
Paired with stainless steel hardware (Not self-tapping screws), they function
as structural reinforcements for the hood.
· Stress Distribution: Rather than concentrating all the lifting force on one small
bolt hole—which can make the metal wear out and crack—the Townhall brackets
distribute the load over a wider area of the hood’s inner structure. This effectively "braces" the hood
against the flex that occurs every time you open or close it.
3.
Precision Engineering Features
· Smooth Geometry: The pivot points
are engineered so that the struts do the heavy lifting at the start of the arc,
but don't "over-extend" or put undue tension on the hood when it's in
the fully closed position.
